Series: Looking inside

In this series, I combine cyanotype with monoprint.

Cyanotype is a historical alternative photographic process in which a unique monochrome image in Prussian blue is created manually directly on light-sensitive paper.

When creating smaller monotypes, a kind of frame emerged on the paper used as cover sheet—I took this as the starting point for this series. I then coated these papers and exposed them to sunlight as botanical cyanotypes.

Looking at my series, you feel as if you were looking inside (or outside?), into the world of plants. How close or distant is the inside /outside world? In addition, the color blue conveys a sense of distance, while the details convey a sense of closeness. How do we perceive distance and proximity—to nature, to other people?

My work leaves room for surprises and coincidences—for experimentation and the development of my own style. I always find new meanings in the aesthetics of imperfection.

In dieser Serie kombiniere ich Cyanotypie mit Monoprint.

Cyanotypie ist ein historisches alternatives fotografisches Verfahren, bei dem ein einzigartiges monochromes Bild in Preussischblau manuell direkt auf lichtempfindlichem Papier erzeugt wird.

Beim Erstellen kleinerer Monotypien entstand auf dem als Deckblatt verwendeten Papier jeweils eine Art Rahmen – dies nahm ich als Ausgangspunkt für diese Serie. Anschliessend habe ich diese Deckblätter beschichtet und als botanische Cyanotypien in der Sonne belichtet.

Wenn man meine Serie betrachtet, hat man das Gefühl, als würde man in die Welt der Pflanzen hineinsehen (oder hinaussehen?). Wie nah oder fern ist die innere/äussere Welt? Ausserdem vermittelt die Farbe Blau ein Gefühl von Distanz, während die Details ein Gefühl von Nähe vermitteln. Wie nehmen wir Distanz und Nähe wahr – zur Natur, zu anderen Menschen?

Meine Arbeit lässt Raum für Überraschungen und Zufälle – für Experimente und die Entwicklung meines eigenen Stils. Ich finde immer neue Bedeutungen in der Ästhetik der Unvollkommenheit.
