Title: So close and yet so far

I’m very excited that one of my images was selected for the Online Gallery.

Series: “Tree 371”
When I first saw a tree with a number on it, I was curious to know what it was all about, so I did some research and learned that certain trees are numbered so they can be uniquely identified for maintenance and historical record-keeping. In the forest, there are also trees with special markings that indicate which trees need to be felled, etc. Also, there are so-called “future trees” or habitat trees (for woodpeckers and bats) that are given special protection.

My current work with cyanotype and linocut on Japanese paper is an exploration of layering, both in the literal and conceptual sense. Not only do techniques and materials overlap, but so do memories and experiences. Every single tree is close to my heart—with my prints, I pursue a tactile, artisanal approach and aim to highlight the uniqueness, beauty, and fragility of nature.

Serie: «Tree 371»
