The Power of Color

My image “Paloma Hyacinth” was selected for the “Power of Color” online exhibition at the Chateau Gallery /archival print, 31 x 45 cm.

It is from the series: „The Ephemeral“ in which I combine a photograph of a unique botanical cyanotype on paper with a photograph of an iconic miniature perfume flacon. The botanical cyanotpye is used in a truly ephemeral way: it is properly exposed but not yet fixed – left in that stage the print would further expose leaving no trace of the imprint that the botanical had made at that point. I have to photograph the print at that stage to get a lasting image of it.

(The selected flower makes up one of the heart notes of the respective perfume.)

In meiner neuen Werkgruppe „Das Ephemere“ überlagere ich eine Fotografie einer botanischen Cyanotypie auf Papier mit einer Fotografie eines ikonischen Miniaturparfumflakons. Die botanische Cyanotypie wird auf wahrhaft ephemere Weise verwendet: sie ist korrekt belichtet, aber noch nicht fixiert – ohne Fixierung würde der Belichtungsprozess weitergehen und am Ende bliebe keine Spur mehr von dem zu diesem Zeitpunkt (flüchtigen) Abdrucks der Pflanze. Ich muss den Pflanzenabdruck in diesem Stadium fotografieren, um ein Bild von ihm zu erhalten /bewahren.

(Die jeweils ausgewählte Blume macht eine der Herznoten des jeweiligen Parfums aus.)
